Eligibility Criteria for a Belgium Visa
To apply for a Belgium visa from India, you must meet the following requirements:
1. Valid Passport
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure from Belgium.
- It should have been issued within the last 10 years.
- Ensure it has at least two blank pages for visa stamps.
2. Travel Insurance
- A mandatory travel insurance policy for medical emergencies, accidents, and repatriation.
- The insurance must be valid in all Schengen countries.
3. Proof of Financial Stability
- You must show sufficient financial means to cover your stay:
- Short-term stay
- Long-term stay
4. Proof of Accommodation
- Confirmed hotel booking, rental agreement, or an invitation letter from a host in Belgium.
5. Travel Itinerary & Flight Tickets
- A copy of your round-trip flight reservation showing entry and exit from Belgium.
6. Purpose of Visit Documentation
- A document stating the purpose of your visit:
- Visiting family/friends: Invitation letter from the host.
- Business trips: Invitation from a Belgian company + employer’s letter.
- Tourism: Travel itinerary, hotel bookings, and planned activities.
- Study purposes: Enrollment confirmation from a Belgian institution.
7. Biometric Data Submission
- If you’re applying for a Schengen visa for the first time, you must provide biometric data (fingerprints and a photo) in person at the visa center.

- The average processing time for a Belgium visa in India is 15 working days from the date of application submission.
- During peak travel seasons, it can take up to 30 days.
To avoid delays, it’s recommended to apply at least 4–6 weeks in advance

FAQ OF BELGIUM VISA
Extending the visa does not fall within the competence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or consulates. In justified cases, the visa can be extended by the office of Aliens Police. The stay cannot be extended for the period of stay more than 90 days. More information on the extension of the visas can be obtained by the Directorate of the Aliens Police
In case of same purpose of stay, the applicant is entitled to submit both applications for Schengen and long-term visa in case the purpose of stay is employment.
The application is decided by the relevant consulate of the Belgium. The processing time of the application is 15 calendar days. This time can be extended for up to 30 days and in exceptional cases for up to 60 days. The decision of the consulate is based on the presented supporting documents and the interview with the applicant.
