Finland Visa for Indians – Requirements & Application Process
Planning a trip to Finland? Whether you’re visiting for tourism, business, or study, understanding the visa requirements is essential.
Eligibility Criteria for a Finland Visa
To qualify for a Finland visa, you must meet the following requirements:
1. Valid Passport
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your planned departure from Finland.
- It must have been issued within the last 10 years.
- Ensure your passport has at least two blank pages for the visa stamp.
2. Travel Insurance
- You must have valid travel insurance
- The insurance must cover medical emergencies, hospitalization, and repatriation.
3. Proof of Sufficient Funds
To ensure financial stability during your stay, you need to provide:
- For short-term stays.
- For stays longer than 30 days
4. Proof of Accommodation
You must submit documents confirming your accommodation, such as:
- Hotel booking confirmation.
- Cruise voucher (if applicable).
- Invitation letter from a host in Finland (for business or personal visits).
5. Proof of Travel
A confirmed flight itinerary, showing both arrival and return tickets, is required.
6. Purpose of Stay
You must provide supporting documents explaining the reason for your visit:
- Tourism: Travel itinerary, hotel bookings.
- Business: Invitation letter from a Finnish company.
- Study: Admission letter from a recognized educational institution.
- Visiting family/friends: An invitation letter from your host in Finland.
7. Biometric Information
- If you are applying for a Schengen visa for the first time, you must provide biometric data (fingerprints and photo) in person.
8. Additional Supporting Documents
- Completed Finland visa application form (signed by the applicant).
- Recent passport-size photographs (as per Schengen visa specifications).
- Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the past three years.
- Bank statements for the last three months with bank seal & signature.
- Salary slips (for employed applicants).
- Business registration documents (for self-employed applicants).
Important Notes:
- Fake documents or false information can result in visa rejection.
- If you hold a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa (Type C or D), you do not need a separate Finland visa.
Applying for a Finland visa from India can be smooth if you follow the correct procedure and submit all required documents. Make sure you apply well in advance to avoid last-minute delays.

FAQ OF FINLAND VISA
Extending the visa does not fall within the competence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or consulates. In justified cases, the visa can be extended by the office of Aliens Police. The stay cannot be extended for the period of stay more than 90 days. More information on the extension of the visas can be obtained by the Directorate of the Aliens Police
In case of same purpose of stay, the applicant is entitled to submit both applications for Schengen and long-term visa in case the purpose of stay is employment.
The application is decided by the relevant consulate of the Finland. The processing time of the application is 15 calendar days. This time can be extended for up to 30 days and in exceptional cases for up to 60 days. The decision of the consulate is based on the presented supporting documents and the interview with the applicant.
