New Zealand Visa FAQs

A New Zealand Visa also referred to as a New Zealand ‘visitor’s visa’, is a document that is placed in your passport and used to enter or re-enter New Zealand. The visa can be viewed as having valid permission to enter New Zealand for tourism, business or transit purpose.

All Indians who are not New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand require a visa to enter New Zealand. The requirement for a Visitor Visa also applies to visitors who are in transit through New Zealand.

The time taken to process your application can vary depending on:

  • Fulfillment of the requirements of the New Zealand Immigration
  • The completeness of your application
  • Processing time can also depend upon how busy the New Zealand Embassy is

You can apply for a New Zealand Visa up to 3 months prior to your departure date.

On a visitor visa the maximum allowable stay is 9 months. The visa is normally valid for 3 months or in some cases upto 6 months. Business persons travelling to New Zealand frequently for business purposes may be issued multiple entry visitor visas valid for a maximum period of 3 years. However the visa decision and its validity are at the discretion of the Embassy.

An original travel ticket does not need to be submitted along with the visa application. We would however need the original ticket in case of a transit visa application.

No. Confirmed flight or hotel reservations are not required for Tourist or Business visa application but mandatory for Transit visa application.

If a New Zealand resident/ citizen is outside of New Zealand at the time of sponsoring an application he or she can complete the sponsorship form and send the same along with the visa application and supporting documents to establish his eligibility as a sponsor. The sponsorship application can be approved by a visa officer.

Transit visas are only for people who will be in New Zealand for less than 24 hours and will not leave the transit area of the airport. If you will be in New Zealand for more than 24 hours or want to leave the transit area, you will need a visitor’s visa.

No additional fee is applicable for a longer validity visa. Please note that the validity of the New Zealand Visa is at the discretion of the Embassy.

One can be granted a New Zealand Visa if the following conditions are met:

  • The intention of visit is genuinely expressed to the officer
  • Sufficiency of funds to stay in New Zealand for the duration of your stay
  • Demonstrate the intention to return home after the mentioned time of stay
  • No intention to study or work unless otherwise mentioned
  • No record of criminal offenses
  • Be able to provide any other documents upon request
  • Be healthy at the time of New Zealand Visa Application

Beyond this, you will also need to demonstrate your intended temporary purpose in New Zealand. Do not forget that you are applying for a temporary document, and an officer will wish to see the temporary nature of your stay in all aspects of your application.

If you have a valid visa in your old passport and have recently renewed your passport (because it has expired, was lost/stolen or your name has changed), you need to transfer your valid visa into your new passport before you use it to travel. This applies regardless of whether you have a physical visa label or an eVisa.

After you arrive in New Zealand, you may want to change the conditions of your visit. This is possible in special cases. To extend your stay; visa holders in New Zealand seeking further temporary visas should apply at least one month in advance of their visa expiry date. To extend your Visitor's Visa, you will have to show that during your stay: You have supported yourself financially, and have enough money to continue supporting yourself; and You have not worked, been sponsored, or held a Student Permit.

After receiving your complete New Zealand Visa application, our Visa Experts will perform a completeness check based on New Zealand Immigration requirements and will then submit your application on your behalf to TT Services. Once the Embassy/Consulate has assessed your application, they will make a decision and affix a visa counterfoil in your passport or otherwise issue you with a letter explaining why a visa could not be granted.

The New Zealand Embassy/Consulate will then securely return your passport to TT Services New Zealand, and the same will be collected by us and handed over to you.

You can check your visa status on the TT services website. TT services online tracking system can provide only status updates on your passport movement and not on your applications progress or decision. To track your documents, please enter your TTS receipt number OR Your passport number and date of birth with valid Captcha Text.

You are strongly advised to purchase a health / travel insurance to cover yourself as medical treatment can be very expensive in New Zealand. Your travel insurance offers protection against unexpected emergencies on international travel such as coverage of medical expenses, flight delay and cancellations, passport and baggage loss or personal accident. For financial safety and security on your international trip we highly recommend you to purchase travel insurance and avail our special offer.
